Free Spots in our Upcoming Kids Anxiety Group – Mighty Minds!

One of our goals at Dragonfly is to offer free services to families in our community who do not have coverage/benefits. Thanks to a fellow non-profit here in Regina called Own Your Story we are able to offer FREE spots in our upcoming anxiety group called “Mighty Minds”. Mighty Minds group is available to children ages 6-11! Mighty Minds is a 6 week program based on evidence based cognitive behavioral treatment for children with anxiety. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is well supported by research. Parents/caregivers are also involved in attending and participating in the group.

Is a group the right fit for you and your child?

Group treatments can be very effective. They communicate the same essential information and skills that are shared in individual sessions, but learning is enriched by the discussion and dialogue that happens in a group setting. Sometimes kids feel that they are “weird” because of their thoughts, feelings, or actions. Knowing that others have similar experiences can make it feel less scary and can help kids feel more open to talking about their experiences and more open to exploring new strategies.

What will my child learn about in the Mighty Minds group?

  • Information about anxiety and how it impacts the brain and the body. Children and families will learn to recognize and understand emotional and physical reactions to anxiety.
  • Learning about thinking errors and to clarify thoughts and feelings in anxious situations. They will learn how to think in a way that is more helpful!
  • They will learn relaxation techniques and develop other coping skills and strategies through a variety of fun and engaging activities!
  • Children will have exposure tasks, they will have a chance to practice being in their feared situation and have mastery experience!

How do you know if your child may benefit from attending Mighty Minds?

  • You are finding your child’s “worries” are interfering with their ability to participate in day-to-day activities. Sometimes they can even struggle with activities they enjoy most!
  • They may experience frequent symptoms like head or tummy aches related to doing their “feared” activities.
  • Behaviour challenges which might be related to their worries.

Every child is different, if you have any questions about the Mighty Minds group or if your child would benefit please reach out to us!
