During the first session we will find out the concerns and we will make a plan for services.
If there are any safety concerns, we will create a safety plan with the parent/caregiver together with the youth.
If needed we can also provide referrals to other resources.
We do require a parent/caregiver for the first session for all children and youth under the age of 16 (and we encourage their presence over the age of 16 as well).
Children or youth who live in a group home setting can come with a staff member who works with them frequently or they can come with their caseworker.
If you are referring a child under the age of 12 we will complete the first session with the parent/caregiver only (the child does not come to the first session).
We know it can be hard for parents to get to the office for appointments. We can go to the home if needed – please let us know if you think this might be required.
If there is a need for communication with other people on the child’s team (for example a caseworker, a school counsellor etc.) this can be discussed with the parent/caregiver and if they agree we can sign consent to exchange information.
